Baramulla, May 04 (KNO): Two newly local militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in an encounter at Wanigam Payeen village of Kreeei in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday. Additional Deputy General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that both the militants were affiliated with the prescribed outfit Lashkar e Toiba and had joined the militant ranks in the month of March this year. Kumar, while terming the operation as a big success, said that the neutralized militants were planning to carry out the attacks on security forces. He also congratulated the security forces for carrying out the operation in a professional manner and without any collateral damage. Earlier, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amod Nagpure told KNO that on the basis of a special intelligence, a joint cordon and search operation by Army's 29 Rashtriya Rifles, SSB and Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched at Wanigam Payeen of sub-division Kreeri in Baramulla. Amod said soon after the joint party reached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened indiscriminate firing at them which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight, two local militants, identified as Shakir Majid Najar and Hanan Ahmed Seh - both from Southern Shopian district, he said. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK 47 rifle and 01 pistol was recovered from the gunfight site. Meanwhile, a case in this regard has been registered and further investigations have been taken up. Today’s encounter was second in the last 24 hours in north Kashmir. On Wednesday, two foreign militants were killed in Machil sector of Kupwara when they were trying to sneak into this side. A police spokesman in a statement to KNO said that acting on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in Wanigam Payeen, Kreeri area of Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (29RR) and SSB (2nd Bn) in the said area. “During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” the spokesman said. “In the ensuing encounter, 2 local terrorists linked with the proscribed terrorist outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. They have been identified as Shakir Majid Najar and Hanan Ahmad Seh, both residents of Shopian.” The spokesman said that both the killed terrorists had recently joined terrorist ranks and were planning to carry out a terrorist attack in the area, which was timely neutralized. ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar congratulated the joint team of Police and security forces for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage and termed the operation a big success as the killed terrorists were planning to carry out a terrorist attack in the area—(KNO)
